Julia Mears earned her J.D. from the University of Iowa College of Law in 1980. Ms. Mears practiced in Iowa City for one year before taking the position of Assistant to the President (University Counsel) at the University of Iowa, in which she served until 1992, when she returned to the firm.

Ms. Mears's practice centers on family law, probate, real estate and matters arising out of the University of Iowa community, largely University employment.

Ms. Mears lives in Iowa City with her husband Philip and two children, and enjoys reading, knitting, and jogging.
